Tantra is the science of seeing, feeling, knowing the infinite through the finite. It leads one to the experience of the infinite through the limited world of form. Tantra teaches knowledge and experience of the macrocosm through the instrumentality of the microcosm. Tantra can be summarized as a family of voluntary rituals modelled on the basis of the Vedas. These rituals typically involve the visualization of a deity, offerings and chanting of his or her mantra. These practices are usually said to require permission from a qualified teacher or a guru who belongs to legitimate guru parampara or teacher student line age. Thus Tantra shares some similarities with yoga.
