What is VAASTU ?

“VAASTU " is a voluminous and scattered ancient Indian literature dealing with knowledge of architecture, iconography and art relating to structures and buildings. It comprise of independent works which are classified under the general heading of Vaastu. Sanskrit word Vaastu generally means 'dwelling' or a building used for residential purposes. The first mention of Vaastu is found in the Yajurveda, the ancient text believed to be over 4000 years old. They cover a wide variety of buildings like places of worship, marriage houses, party houses, palaces and chariots and dwellings. The first book on this subject is believed to have been written about 3000 years back by saint Vishwakarma. Vaastu is a science that is complete in it and can bring happiness to the whole world.

Vaastu also means “Art of Living”. This whole world is made of 5 elements. These 5 elements are Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. It is the phenomenon of nature to keep the balance of these elements. When there is imbalance in nature, we see natural disasters like storms, earthquakes that disturb the routine life. Similarly, our body is also made of these 5 elements. If there is any increase or decrease of any of element in our body, it can destroy us. Therefore, the right balance of these 5 elements in the body is very essential for healthy life i.e. if there is deficiency of water in human body, it create health problems. Similarly if any element increases or decreases in our residence, factory, office, shop etc. it creates problems in our life. Therefore, the right balance of these elements is very essential for the above mentioned places. In simple words, Vaastu gives us knowledge that how to live and how to build our homes and buildings. Directions in “VAASTU”

There are total eight directions North, South, East, and West are called cardinal directions and the point where any of the two directions meet is called inter cardinal or ordinal point like NE, SE, SW, NW. These directions are given a lot of importance in Vaastu as they combine the benefits of two directions in totality.

Our Shastra says if we worship, idolize and honour the Lords of these eight directions, people yield eternal blessings in the form of success, health and prosperity.
